No, except for areas that have large cracks or missing cement pieces. In this instance, these areas will need to be filled in with a self-leveling compound (commonly referred to as Skim Coat) before ARMOR TUFF TILES are installed. All that is then required is to sweep, vacuum or blow out your floor using a leaf blower before starting installation for apparatus bay floors. It is not necessary to sandblast or wash the floor with detergent when the tiles are being loose laid in the back rooms.

No, if you are installing in an apparatus bay, the floor needs to be free of grease and oil residue.  ARMOR TUFF TILES need to be laid down using a two part adhesive in order to prevent the apparatus or truck from rolling the tiles. It will also seal the floor from any penetration of water getting under the tiles.

When foot traffic tiles are used than it is not necessary to clean the floor other then broom swept. A loose laid floor system can be installed on contaminated substrates and can also be used in environments where the substrate is damp as the joints allow for evaporation.

Although the unique design of ARMOR TUFF provides a solid joint, we do not claim that it is 100% waterproof. Seepage is usually limited to the "T" joints of uneven floors. The epoxy adhesive prevents water from traveling underneath the tiles. If large amounts of water are spilled and left on the floor, some seepage can occur. However, this water evaporates quickly as the interlocking system allows the floor to breathe. We have been manufacturing interlocking flooring systems for many years and have never had any instances where spillages have resulted in odors or substrate damage.

We recommend only using our 6.5, 7, 9 MM "T" Joint flooring system tiles.

You can use your ARMOR TUFF floors immediately after the installation. This is one of the many advantages of the ARMOR TUFF flooring system has over an epoxy floor. However, we recommend allowing 12 to 24 hours for the adhesive to fully set up before backing in heavy vehicles. 

During the initial comparison, the price of ARMOR TUFF to other flooring systems such as vinyl, paint, or resins, ARMOR TUFF may seem more expensive. However, when you take into account the following points, ARMOR TUFF is a more resilient product that costs less with easy installation. The price per square foot of ARMOR TUFF TILES (7 MM) vs. the thickness of epoxy (60 MILS) proves ARMOR TUFF TILES are the better and most cost effective product per square foot.

Adhesive is required for all fire apparatus bays. For ambulance bays we recommend using adhesive under the tires or the entire floor. 

In the vast majority of applications, the tiles can be loose laid, without any adhesive is required. However, there are exceptional situations; for example, when a reach truck or a 3-wheeled forklift truck is operating in a confined space with very tight turning circles.

We also recommend that adhesive is used during installations under extreme variations in temperatures.

The adhesive is also recommended in any area with a south or west-facing loading bay door that is exposed to any direct sunlight or heat source.

Foot traffic tiles can be loose laid and float on the floor.

Please refer to our installation and maintenance instructions for a more in-depth guide to cleaning, but in general terms, we recommend that firstly you sweep or vacuum up dust and then damp [not wet][/not] mop the tiles. Water by itself or with a small quantity of detergent will suffice with either a mop or a rotary scrubber dryer if available. You can use a buffer with a lamb’s wool pad to buff a clean, dry floor to a fantastic shine. If required, you can hose off the floor with your garden hose or a power washer [under 1300 psi][/under].

The tiles are made from 100% PVC polymer compound, and we also offer a range of color tiles. Vinyl tiles are available for retail, light commercial and home use.

No, we do not recommend the use of ARMOR TUFF outdoors.

ARMOR TUFF TILES tiles can be installed over most floors. Conditions of vinyl, painted floors and epoxy will determine whether further attention is needed. However, it is recommended to remove carpet or carpet tiles before the installation.

ARMOR TUFF tiles are an excellent conductor of heat. Please note that before the installation of the tiles, the under-floor heating must be switched on. Lay the tiles out in batches of 5 to allow them to acclimatize and settle to the temperature of the under-floor heat for at least 24 hours before starting installation.

Staining from tires is common. The dye in tires varies. Hot rubber tires can pick up the hot asphalt residue from the road and will stain almost every type of floor, including bare concrete, epoxy, quartz, quarry tiles, painted, and vinyl flooring. The stain is a chemical reaction and will not damage the tiles or have an impact on their durability. We recommend and strongly suggest using black tiles under the tires of your vehicles and another color for the foot traffic areas.
